Foto scattata presso il Museo dell'Aviotrasportata britannica a Duxford. Questo è l'elmetto d'acciaio in uso presso i Para, molto diverso dalla "padella" dei corpi standard dell'esercito. Si tratta della versione Mk1 del 1943, verosimilmente utilizzata da una parte degli uomini lanciati sulla Normandia benché nel febbraio del 1944 fosse cominciata la distribuzione del Mk2. La differenza più significativa tra i due sono le cinghie: di cuoio nel caso della foto, di tessuto nel modello 1944.

Photograph taken at the Airborne Assault Museum in Duxford, UK. This is the steel helmet used by the Paras, very different from the ‘Tommy Helmet’ issued to regular army units. It is the 1943 Mk1, actually used by some of the men who jumped into Normandy, even though distribution of the Mk2 had already begun in February 1944. The main difference between the two was the material the straps were made from: leather in the version seen in the photo, fabric in the 1944 model.
