Levrette diver's watch - Orologio Levrette per sub

This fine diver's watch dating back to 1966 features a Super-Compressor case made by Ervin Piquerez S.A. (EPSA).  Patented in 1956, its sealing method was designed to take advantage of water pressure itself - as the latter increased, the case back was pressed more firmly against the O-Ring gasket. On the other hand, since pressure was lighter in dry conditions, gaskets had a longer lifespan.

The Super-Compressor cases are found in diver's watches by dozens of manufacturers, and in two sizes - 41 and 36 mm. This 36 mm Levrette features an additional Piquerez patent: the internal diver's bezel rotated by means of the crown at 2 o'clock. Both patent numbers appear on the inside of the case back, beneath the helmet logo and above the date of manufacture - June 1966. The cross-hatching marks on the crowns are two more unmistakable features of Super-Compressor watches.

The dial with diamond-shaped numerals al 6, 9 and 12, along with the  dagger-type hands, make this timepiece particularly attractive and rare.

Questo orologio subacqueo degli Anni 60 è equipaggiato con la cassa Super-Compressor fabbricata da Ervin Piquerez S.A. (EPSA). Brevettato nel 1956, il metodo di impermeabilizzazione fu progettato per sfruttare la pressione stessa dell'acqua - quando quest'ultima cresce, il fondo cassa è spinto con maggiore forza sulla guarnizione anulare. Quando invece l'orologio si trova in ambiente asciutto, la pressione diminuisce e questo fa sì che la guarnizione abbia una durata più lunga nel tempo.

Le casse Super-Compressor furono utilizzate da decine di fabbricanti in due misure: 41 e 36 mm. Questo Levrette da 36 mm si avvale di un altro brevetto Piquerez: la lunetta girevole interna per subacquei regolata dalla corona a ore 2. Entrambe i numeri di brevetto appaiono sull'interno del fondo cassa, sotto il simbolo dell'elmo da palombaro e sopra la data di fabbricazione: giugno 1966. La trama di linee perpendicolari sulle corone è un'altra caratteristica inconfondibile degli orologi Super-Compressor.

Questo esemplare è particolarmente raro e gradevole per gli indici a rombo sul quadrante, in corrispondenza delle ore 3, 6 e 9, e per le lancette a gladio.
