Vintage watches - Rolex Oyster Perpetual Ref. 3131 (early 1950s)

A Ref. 3131 Oyster Perpetual, a case opener tool and Volume 3 of the 1945 Rolex Vade Mecum - "How the waterproof watch was created". This timepiece dating back to the early 1950s is a late "Bubbleback" made when the updated Perpetual movements and references were already available.

Un Oyster Perpetual Ref. 3131, l'attrezzo usato per aprire le casse e il Volume 3 del Rolex Vade Mecum (1945): "Come fu creato l'orologio impermeabile". Questo "Ovetto" dei primi Anni 50 fu fabbricato quando erano già in commercio i Perpetual con movimenti e numeri di referenza aggiornati.

 

Vintage timepieces - Girard-Perregaux Laureato (1990s)

Nel 1975 Girard-Perregaux lanciò il Laureato come orologio sportivo al quarzo di spessore limitato. Vent’anni più tardi, il nuovo movimento automatico di manifattura consentì di crearne una versione automatica che mantenne le caratteristiche principali del suo predecessore: la lunetta ottagonale su base rotonda, il bracciale integrato, il quadrante a nido d’ape e le dimensioni relativamente ridotte, almeno in rapporto agli standard del 21esimo secolo. L’orologio era impermeabile a 10 atmosfere. Negli Anni 90 il Calibro 3100 fu utilizzato dagli orologi di alcune Case di gamma alta come Cartier e Vacheron Constantin. Fu concepito per rendere possibile l’abbinamento con un modulo cronografico o di calendario.

Dimensioni 35 mm, spessore 8 mm.
Cassa Acciaio e oro rosa 18k, chiusa mediante viti.
Movimento Calibro 3100, automatico, diametro 26,2 mm, spessore 2,98 mm, 27 rubini, rotore centrale a carica bidirezionale, bilanciere monometallico anulare, spirale piana, dispositivo antiurto, 28.800 alternanze/ora.
 

Girard-Perregaux introduced the first Laureato in 1975 as a thin sports watch with quartz movement. Twenty years later, a new in-house movement enabled the brand to launch a self-winding version of the model that retained the main features of its electronic predecessor – the eight-sided bezel above a round base, integrated bracelet, hobnail dial and comparatively small size, at least by 21^st Century standards. The watch was waterproof up to 10 bars. The Caliber 3100 is found in a few timepieces of the 1990s by such high-end brands as Cartier and Vacheron Constantin. It was designed to allow for the addition of chronograph or calendar modules.

Case Stainless steel, snap-on back.
Movement Caliber 3100, self-winding, diameter 26.2 mm, height 2.98 mm, 27 jewels, central rotor winding in both directions, monometallic screwless balance, flat hairspring, shock absorber, 28,800 vibrations per hour.

New releases - Montblanc 1858 Split Second Chronograph

Montblanc reinterprets a 44 mm Minerva military monopusher chronograph, with the calibre 17/29, from the 1930s with a dial comprising a snail shape tachymeter scale in the centre and a telemeter scale on the internal flange. The new timepiece comes in a vibrant blue colour executed in gradated enamel combined with a 44 mm satin-finished, grade 5 titanium case.

Vintage timepieces - Vacheron Constantin 222 (1970s)

Launched in 1977 in order to celebrate the brand's 222th anniversary, the 222 model was available in steel, steel/gold and gold, as well as in two case designs: 'tonneau' and square. The latter is the rarer, having only been produced in a few hundred pieces before the model was discontinued in 1984.

Functions Hours, minutes, center seconds, date with instant correction.
Size 30 x 34 mm,  thickness 6 mm.
Case 18k yellow gold, snap back with screws.
Movement Calibre 1124, self-winding, 26 mm, 33 jewels, rotor with a 21k gold segment, winding in boths direction, screwless balance, Breguet hairspring, Kif shock absorber, 28,800 vibrations per hour.

Lanciato nel 1977 per celebrare i 222 anni di Vacheron Constantin, il modello 222 era disponibile in acciaio, acciaio/oro e oro, oltre che in due versioni di cassa: tonneau e quadrata. Quest'ultima è la più rara, prodotta in poche centinaia di esemplari fino alla cessazione del modello nel 1984.

New releases – Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Memovox Timer

For its new generation of alarm watches, the manufacturer has revised the self-winding calibre 956. The transparent sapphire back demanded a complete redesign of the striking mechanism, with the gong now attached to the case side. The additional Timer function enables the owner to set the alarm based on the number of hours that should elapse before the alarm rings. 

The dial is laid out in concentric rings, in two shades of blue with a sunray finish, complemented by an inner ring engraved in bas-relief with polished numerals. On this inner ring, the elapsed hours-until-alarm are indicated by a small hand tipped with a red JL logo.
