Vintage timepieces - Exaequo Softwatch (1991)

Exaequo era una ditta di Ginevra che presentò diversi orologi dal design originale nella seconda metà degli Anni 80 e nella prima dei 90. La Fiera di Basilea del 1991 fu teatro del lancio del Softwatch, il cui nome e aspetto alludevano al dipinto “La persistenza della memoria” di Salvador Dali (1931, vedi sotto). L’artista spiegò che i tre orologi molli non sono “nulla più del molle, stravagante, solitario, paranoico-critico Camembert dello spazio e del tempo … Duri o morbidi, che importa! L’importante è che siano precisi”. Equipaggiato con un cinturino di pelle imitazione coccodrillo e con un vetro zaffiro sopra il quadrante, il Softwatch fu commercializzato presso negozi di oggettistica e grandi magazzini.

Exaequo was a Geneva company that introduced a few original watch designs in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The 1991 Basel Fair saw the launch of the Softwatch, whose name and shape hinted to Salvador Dali and his 1931 painting “The persistence of memory” (see above). In the artist’s words, the three soft watches he portrayed are “nothing more than the soft, extravagant, solitary, paranoiac-critical Camembert cheese of space and time... Hard or soft, what difference does it make! As long as they tell time accurately”. Fitted with a croco fashioned leather strap and a sapphire crystal, the Exaequo Softwatch was sold in the specialized shops and department stores of several countries.

Il 2020 ha visto la cancellazione dei principali eventi fieristici legati all'orologeria, da Basilea a Ginevra, ma anche la nascita di una manifestazione nuova. Il 26 e 27 settembre prossimi, il Museo delle Macchine Agricole "Orsi" di Tortona ospiterà la prima edizione di Watches Of Italy, rassegna dedicata alla filiera orologiera italiana. La locandina qui sopra presenta la lista degli oltre 40 espositori. Gli ideatori, i produttori, gli artigiani, i designer e i progettisti presenteranno personalmente ai visitatori il frutto del loro lavoro. Parteciperanno anche alcuni dei blogger più apprezzati dai navigatori del web.

 

New releases - Breitling Endurance Pro

The new Breitling Endurance Pro features a black dial and a black bidirectional rotating bezel with engraved cardinal compass points (N, S, E, and W). Its five variations are presented on a Diver Pro rubber strap in the same color as the inner bezel ring. At the heart of the timepiece is the COSC-certified Breitling Caliber 82 with SuperQuartz™ technology. Water-resistant to 10 bar/100 meters/330 feet, the case is in Breitlight®. Vintage watches - Rolex Oyster Perpetual Ref. 3131 (early 1950s)

A Ref. 3131 Oyster Perpetual, a case opener tool and Volume 3 of the 1945 Rolex Vade Mecum - "How the waterproof watch was created". This timepiece dating back to the early 1950s is a late "Bubbleback" made when the updated Perpetual movements and references were already available.

Un Oyster Perpetual Ref. 3131, l'attrezzo usato per aprire le casse e il Volume 3 del Rolex Vade Mecum (1945): "Come fu creato l'orologio impermeabile". Questo "Ovetto" dei primi Anni 50 fu fabbricato quando erano già in commercio i Perpetual con movimenti e numeri di referenza aggiornati.

 

Vintage timepieces - Girard-Perregaux Laureato (1990s)

Nel 1975 Girard-Perregaux lanciò il Laureato come orologio sportivo al quarzo di spessore limitato. Vent’anni più tardi, il nuovo movimento automatico di manifattura consentì di crearne una versione automatica che mantenne le caratteristiche principali del suo predecessore: la lunetta ottagonale su base rotonda, il bracciale integrato, il quadrante a nido d’ape e le dimensioni relativamente ridotte, almeno in rapporto agli standard del 21esimo secolo. L’orologio era impermeabile a 10 atmosfere. Negli Anni 90 il Calibro 3100 fu utilizzato dagli orologi di alcune Case di gamma alta come Cartier e Vacheron Constantin. Fu concepito per rendere possibile l’abbinamento con un modulo cronografico o di calendario.

Cassa Acciaio e oro rosa 18k, chiusa mediante viti.

Girard-Perregaux introduced the first Laureato in 1975 as a thin sports watch with quartz movement. Twenty years later, a new in-house movement enabled the brand to launch a self-winding version of the model that retained the main features of its electronic predecessor – the eight-sided bezel above a round base, integrated bracelet, hobnail dial and comparatively small size, at least by 21^st Century standards. The watch was waterproof up to 10 bars. The Caliber 3100 is found in a few timepieces of the 1990s by such high-end brands as Cartier and Vacheron Constantin. It was designed to allow for the addition of chronograph or calendar modules.

New releases - Montblanc 1858 Split Second Chronograph

Montblanc reinterprets a 44 mm Minerva military monopusher chronograph, with the calibre 17/29, from the 1930s with a dial comprising a snail shape tachymeter scale in the centre and a telemeter scale on the internal flange. The new timepiece comes in a vibrant blue colour executed in gradated enamel combined with a 44 mm satin-finished, grade 5 titanium case.
