Vintage ads - Cortébert (1939)

"Art and technology". Based in the namesake village of the Bern Canton, Cortébert designed and manufactured the movements of its own timepieces. The case of this one features fancy hooded lugs.

New releases – Frederique Constant Highlife Heart Beat

The new collection revisits the iconic design of the first Heart Beat timepiece, which reveals the inner workings of its movement at midday, and brings it into the 21^st century. Located at the pole of the globe decoration on the dial, the aperture is finished with three luminescent hands. You can look straight into the automatic FC-310 caliber with power reserve of 38 hours, from both front and back through the sapphire crystal.

A few views of the Rolex administrative headquarters and watchmaking workshops in Geneva city center. 

 

The “bird’s nest” bridge leading to them, completed in 2012, was entirely financed by the foundation that owns Rolex and named after Hans Wilsdorf, the company’s founder. 

 

The red arrow indicates the details about the ongoing construction of a new building. Rolex also owns a 130,000 square metres complex in the south-west of the city, a production unit in Geneva’s eastern region and, of course, the huge manufacturing facilities in Biel/Bienne.

Alcune immagini del complesso amministrativo e industriale di Rolex nel centro di Ginevra. Il ponte a “nido d’uccello” in primo piano, completato nel 2012, è stato interamente finanziato dalla fondazione proprietaria della compagnia e battezzato con il nome del suo fondatore, Hans Wilsdorf. La freccia rossa indica i dettagli dei lavori in corso per la costruzione di un nuovo edificio. Rolex ha edificato anche un complesso di 130.000 metri quadrati a sud-ovest della città, un centro produttivo nella zona est e, naturalmente, i giganteschi impianti industriali a Biel/Bienne.

Vintage timepieces - Exaequo Softwatch (1991)

Exaequo era una ditta di Ginevra che presentò diversi orologi dal design originale nella seconda metà degli Anni 80 e nella prima dei 90. La Fiera di Basilea del 1991 fu teatro del lancio del Softwatch, il cui nome e aspetto alludevano al dipinto “La persistenza della memoria” di Salvador Dali (1931, vedi sotto). L’artista spiegò che i tre orologi molli non sono “nulla più del molle, stravagante, solitario, paranoico-critico Camembert dello spazio e del tempo … Duri o morbidi, che importa! L’importante è che siano precisi”. Equipaggiato con un cinturino di pelle imitazione coccodrillo e con un vetro zaffiro sopra il quadrante, il Softwatch fu commercializzato presso negozi di oggettistica e grandi magazzini.

Exaequo was a Geneva company that introduced a few original watch designs in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The 1991 Basel Fair saw the launch of the Softwatch, whose name and shape hinted to Salvador Dali and his 1931 painting “The persistence of memory” (see above). In the artist’s words, the three soft watches he portrayed are “nothing more than the soft, extravagant, solitary, paranoiac-critical Camembert cheese of space and time... Hard or soft, what difference does it make! As long as they tell time accurately”. Fitted with a croco fashioned leather strap and a sapphire crystal, the Exaequo Softwatch was sold in the specialized shops and department stores of several countries.

Watches Of Italy

 

Il 2020 ha visto la cancellazione dei principali eventi fieristici legati all'orologeria, da Basilea a Ginevra, ma anche la nascita di una manifestazione nuova. Il 26 e 27 settembre prossimi, il Museo delle Macchine Agricole "Orsi" di Tortona ospiterà la prima edizione di Watches Of Italy, rassegna dedicata alla filiera orologiera italiana. La locandina qui sopra presenta la lista degli oltre 40 espositori. Gli ideatori, i produttori, gli artigiani, i designer e i progettisti presenteranno personalmente ai visitatori il frutto del loro lavoro.
