Vintage timepieces - Citizen Chronograph (1970s)

Introduced in 1970, the Citizen Automatic Chronographs hit the shelves one year after the models by Seiko, its main competitor on the Japanese and international market. Both manufacturers chose the vertical clutch rather than the horizontal clutch used by conventional Swiss chronographs. The latter consists of at least three toothed wheels, while the Japanese solution does not require any additional transmission systems, thus lowering wear associated with friction. Unlike the Seiko movements, the Citizen 8100A Caliber features the manual winding function. At the time of release, it was the world’s flattest self-winding chronograph. The record stayed unbeaten until 1987.

Case Black-coated metal, screw-down back.

Movement Caliber 8100A, self-winding, diameter 27 mm, height 5.8 mm, 23 jewels, central rotor winding in both directions, monometallic screwless balance, flat hairspring, shock absorber, 28,800 vibrations per hour.

Presentati nel 1970, i cronografi automatici Citizen arrivarono nei negozi un anno dopo quelli prodotti da Seiko, principale concorrente sui mercati giapponese e internazionale. Entrambi i fabbricanti preferirono l’innesto verticale all’innesto orizzontale adottato dai cronografi svizzeri convenzionali. Quest’ultimo consiste di almeno tre ruote dentate, mentre i brevetti giapponesi non richiedono sistemi di trasmissione aggiuntivi e limitano così l’usura dovuta agli attriti. Al contrario dei movimenti Seiko, il Citizen 8100A possiede la funzione di carica manuale. All’epoca del lancio, era il movimento cronografico automatico più sottile del mondo: un record imbattuto fino al 1987.

Vintage timepieces - Omega Seamaster 120 (1960s)

Launched in 1966, the Seamaster 120 was the small brother of the Seamaster 300, in that it offered a thinner and less extreme alternative to the growing public of diver watches lovers. The model was available in two versions: manual winding without date and Automatic with date.

Lanciato nel 1966, il Seamaster 120 era il fratello minore del Seamaster 300, nel senso che offriva un'alternativa più sottile e meno "estrema" al pubblico crescente degli appassionati di orologi subacquei. Il modello era disponibile in due versioni: a carica manuale senza data e automatico con data.

Novità - Memphis Belle Predator Heritage Black Sea

 

Prossimo al debutto, il modello avrà una cassa di bronzo annerita chimicamente e un movimento manuale sviluppato a Grenchen (Svizzera) partendo dall’Unitas 6497-2. Le differenze rispetto alla meccanica originale sono numerose: i ponti separati, la funzione d’arresto del bilanciere a corona estratta, la regolazione a collo di cigno, il rivestimento PVD nero, la decorazione a côtes de Genève curve, il bilanciere con bracci ricurvi riconducibile a un brevetto di Einstein. Il quadrante riporterà il logo della X Flottiglia M.A.S. e una decorazione ispirata alle sue imprese.

 

 

Vintage ads - Cortébert (1939)

New releases – Frederique Constant Highlife Heart Beat

A few views of the Rolex administrative headquarters and watchmaking workshops in Geneva city center. 

 

The “bird’s nest” bridge leading to them, completed in 2012, was entirely financed by the foundation that owns Rolex and named after Hans Wilsdorf, the company’s founder. 

 

The red arrow indicates the details about the ongoing construction of a new building. Rolex also owns a 130,000 square metres complex in the south-west of the city, a production unit in Geneva’s eastern region and, of course, the huge manufacturing facilities in Biel/Bienne.

Il ponte a “nido d’uccello” in primo piano, completato nel 2012, è stato interamente finanziato dalla fondazione proprietaria della compagnia e battezzato con il nome del suo fondatore, Hans Wilsdorf.
